Legislative Committee

A warm welcome to the new members of the Steele PTA Legislative Committee!  We are excited and humbled that you volunteer your time and effort to your child’s school, thank you.

The Steele PTA Legislative Committee is looking forward to an exciting year with lots of interesting events for you and your child.  We can participate in some worthwhile National PTA programs, a statewide convention and some local trainings and meetings as we learn to be advocates for EVERY CHILD in ONE VOICE.  We are always working to find ways to support you and all our children.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me with questions or comments, and see our list of exciting UPCOMING EVENTS and other information at www.SteelePTA.org

What is the Steele PTA Legislative Committee?

The committee consists of 4 members and a chair.

What does the Legislative Committee do?

Ø The PTA Legislative committee member keeps an eye on Colorado and National laws affecting our children.  S/he keeps tabs on the monthly COPTA Legislative meetings and has the wonderful opportunity to attend the COPTA Legislative Conference at the Colorado Capital in February, thanks to the Steele PTA.  For Steele we are planning a Legislative Information Event with a guest speaker around funding for DPS school budgets sometime in March.  Please see #1 for more information about PTA Legislative.

Ø The National PTA committee member keeps an eye on National PTA programs and communications.  At Steele we are planning to celebrate Healthy Lifestyles in November and Take Your Family 2School Week in February.  Please see #2 for more information about National PTA.

Ø The COPTA office in Wheat Ridge is were all the action is!  The committee member for the Colorado PTA (COPTA) fosters relationships with the state organization and its officers, and possibly also attend the COPTA Convention in April (the Steele PTA nominate attendees in February).  Please see #3 for more information about COPTA.

Ø The Denver Council PTSA is who we call when our local unit needs help, and they provide training on request and make sure we fulfill all our obligations to remain a unit in good standing.  We are also invited to a series of Denver Council PTSA events through the year.  Please see #4 for more information about the Denver Council PTSA
