1. East Wash Park Progressive Dinner - This is the perfect way- literally, there is no better way- to get together to dine and mingle with your friends and neighbors! Guests will progress through courses, eating one before they can proceed to the next, each course to be served at the home of a different Steele Family, hence the name of the experience. The dinner starts on S. High St. at the Marifet’s for appetizers and wine, then more wine before proceeding to S. Vine to the Woodrow home for the soup/salad course and a reading of 'Recipe for a Salad' by Sydney Smith (during which you will be thankful for the more wine part). For the entree, you will walk- no running allowed- across the street to the home of the Bellian family. This home is of particular significance as a neighborhood cultural center, serving as a haven for the road weary stopping in for a drink and some good cheer. Lastly, feeling free as only the satisfied can feel, you will float around the corner onto York St for desserts at the Haynies. Dedra owns a bakery and can do things with sugar so transcendent one of her pastry's awesomeness once went back in time and inspired the Greek word 'ambrosia'. Each course will be paired with fine wine, beer or cocktails. Legitimate dietary restrictions will be accommodated, pickiness will be mocked. From the dusty shelves of the Argonaut towering above the wilds of Colfax to stills hidden in draws in the backwoods of Kentucky, naturalist, explorer and poet Chris Rimkus will spin tales deep into the night detailing the setting for the capture of each spirit, the nature of its subjugation and the tasting notes of its consumption. After each tasting, Steve will provide a metaphysical description of where the evening stands from our first drink to the last. This exhibition features mind-bending sculptures, installations, and works on paper that rework everyday materials (drinking straws, index cards, slinkys) into sublime and surreal environments. The exhibition occupies the entire museum and celebrates this American artist's singular ability to transform objects of use into work that delights, stuns, and surprises. As if that isn't enough, Tara once noted in an interview that she thinks "in terms of infinity". While you are trying to keep five items straight on a grocery list Tara is mentally arranging the cosmos. The tour will be followed by drinks and nibbles in the museum's rooftop café, which offers stunning views of downtown, the mountains, and the infinity of space on which Tara contemplates.
